This 5 days long Intermediate welding program is for the young aspiring metalsmith with previous metalsmithing experience, ages 12-17. Students will rely and build on the skills they have learned in our beginner Blacksmithing Day Camp while learning the skill of MIG welding and use of the oxy-acetylene torch to join their individual forged pieces together and make precision adjustments at localized heat to create a more elaborate project. They will refresh what they know about safety in a metal workshop, basic metallurgy, practice proper hammer-technique and recap what they learned about the fundamentals of metalsmithing techniques.
Prerequisite : Beginner youth Day Camp!
Students will also learn to safely use angle grinders, belt sanders, plasma cutter and oxy-acetylene torches and some other useful power tools that can greatly assist a modern metalsmith in completion of a project during this course.
