Our highly sought after RAKU clay course is back!
What is RAKU? A type of ceramics-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku technique. Western-style raku usually involves removing pottery from the kiln while it's still glowing hot and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colors in glazes and clay bodies. The drastic thermal shock also produces crackling of certain glazes. Because of the varying direction of the flames and materials, no two pieces will ever look alike.
Go from being a complete beginner to making and firing beautiful RAKU Clay pottery in 2 weeks!

In this 2 Sunday course students will learn the fundamentals of working with clay. Each student will hand-build multiple pieces of pottery with RAKU clay during the initial session on
Sunday, January 22 1PM - 5 PM .

Your new creations will be left to dry then bisque fired and
will be ready to be glazed and raku-fired a week later.
Sunday, January 29, 1 PM - 7 PM

Students will be able to experiment with a variety of glazes.
The spectacular firing (weather permitting) will take place on the same day.
Depending on the volume of creations multiple firings might take place throughout the day. Students will be able to take home their creations the same day! Each firing takes about 30-45 minutes. Some downtime is possible between preparations and firings. It is the longest day of the course, (however for any day of this course) feel free to bring lunch and/or snacks with you.
