This 5 days long Intermediate/Advanced youth blacksmith program is for the young aspiring blacksmith with previous forging experience ages 12-17. Students will rely and build on the skills they have learned in our beginner Day Camp and complete more complex projects independently. They will refresh what they know about safety in a metal workshop, basic metallurgy, practice proper hammer-technique and recap what they learned about the fundamentals of blacksmithing and traditional forging techniques. With these and newly learned skills our students will taper, scroll, punch and twist hot metal at their will onto a whole new level. Prerequisite: Beginner Blacksmith Day Camp!
Students will also learn to safely use grinders, an oxy-acetylene torch and some other useful power tools that can greatly assist a modern blacksmith in completion of a project during this course.
Advanced students who have taken the intermediate curriculum previously may register for this course to work on an advanced project during the camp. The project must be approved prior to the camp . Please contact us to discuss your design and project ideas.
July 24-28, Monday to Friday 9 AM - 12 PM
Hours in the program: 15
Cost: $495/student (Early Bird Registration Rate $450. Offer ends April 1)
Our workshops and day-camp groups have always been intentionally small! Our new policy reduced the number of participants even lower which allows for more space and even more personal attention to each student! Please note we work with open flames and power tools during this camp. Non-flammable clothing and closed toed shoes are an essential requirement!
