What is fold forming some of you might ask? Foldforming is a technique of metalworking whereby metal is folded, repeatedly forged and annealed, and unfolded; at which stage it generally has a dramatic new three-dimensional form.
In this fun 3hour class, students will learn how to transform a sheet of metal into a dynamic textured cuff. This technique teaches the elasticity of metal and how to give metal a new personality using minimal tools. Students will go back and forth between hammering, folding, and using the torch to soften the metal, until they reach their own custom design! No prior experience is required, all skill levels in metalsmithing and jewelry making are welcome.
Each student will have the opportunity to practice the technique on a copper sheet before finalizing their design on the silver cuff they will proudly go home with. All tools, materials and safety gear will be provided.
