Service Description
A personalized forging experience designed to give Leonidas strong foundational skills and the confidence to take on a full intermediate project. This one on one program blends hands-on learning, traditional techniques, and guided creativity. Because Leonidas lives out of town, his only homework between sessions will be light fit and finish work on his final intro project, such as hand sanding. Introduction to Blacksmithing 3 Days, 5 Hours Each Oct 30 Friday 3 to 8 PM Oct 31 - Nov 1, Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM to 3 PM 🛡️ Safety and Shop Awareness • Forge and fuel operation • Tool handling: hammers, tongs, anvils • Moving confidently in an active workspace • Basic metallurgy and heat behavior 🔥 Forging Fundamentals • Hammer control and body mechanics • Heating and shaping steel • Cutting steel with traditional methods • Tapering, punching, twisting • Shouldering, scrolling, bending, and fullering 🛠️ Intro Projects • Multiple beginner projects • Skill building through repetition and guided practice • Light at home sanding for final project Intermediate Blacksmithing Program 5 Days, 3 Hours Each (Nov 20-24) Friday 3 PM - 6 PM, All other days 10 AM - 1 PM Includes an optional Tuesday open forge from 4 to 9 PM during his visit, at no additional cost. 🛡️ Technique Reinforcement • Regular safety refresh • Tool accuracy and efficiency • Metal behavior and heat management 🔥 Intermediate Skill Development • Controlled striking and shaping • Precision cuts w. traditional methods • Complex bending and scrolling • Punching, swaging, and refining details • Planning multi-step forging sequences • Assembling a multi-component project with traditional joinery 🛠️ Multi-Component Project Leonidas will design and forge his first multi-part project using traditional joinery techniques. Besides the actual forging techniques, He will also learn: • Sketching and planning • Proportion, balance, and function • Breaking a design into forgeable components • Problem-solving and adapting as the project develops All projects are tailored to his skill level, offering challenge, creativity, and real craftsmanship. Safety Requirements Closed-toed shoes, long pants, and natural fiber clothing such as cotton, linen, or wool. Synthetic fabrics are not permitted in the forge area.

Cancellation Policy

Please review the published prerequisites before enrolling in intermediate and advanced offerings. Registration & Cancellations - All registrations are non-refundable. - Cancel ≥7 days in advance: receive full credit for a future program. - Cancel <7 days: receive 50% credit for a future program. - One-time rescheduling allowed if requested at least 72 hours before the start of your scheduled class - Further reschedules or cancellations = no credit. - If booking includes multiple students, you must share info for each one. Late cancellations impact us financially; please notify us promptly. Please contact us by phone or email to request changes. Missed Classes No refunds or make-ups for missed classes unrelated to Guild or faculty issues. No Prorating Tuition is not adjusted for late starts or missed days. Program Changes & Cancellations - We reserve the right to substitute instructors, adjust, or cancel programs - Weather-related cancellations will be rescheduled based on availability. - If the Guild cancels a class, a full refund will be issued. - We notify participants of cancellations at least 48 hours in advance when the minimum participation isn’t met. Safety & Liability The Guild, Urban Craft and Folk Art School, and Dark Angel Armory & Forge are not liable for injuries. By registering, you acknowledge and accept responsibility for the associated risk with the class content. Participants may be photographed for promotional use. Contact the Director before your program starts to d privacy requests. Waivers All students (or guardians) must sign a waiver upon arrival, which includes: - Liability Release - Photo/Video Consent (The form is also available online.) Youth Programs Guidelines No supervision before 9:30 AM. No curbside drop-off/pick-up. An adult must sign in/out. Parents are required to attend a 15-minute safety briefing on the first day. Morning sessions end at 1:00 PM, and afternoon sessions end at 4:30 PM. Supervised lunch breaks are provided for both AM and PM enrollments. Bring your lunch and snacks. Fridge & microwave available. A sign-in/out sheet is provided daily. Please include your best contact number. For alternate pickups, please notify us in writing and list the information on the sign-in sheet.
