Private Workshop Series for L&Z

Started Oct 4
2,100 US dollars
The Guild Urban Craft & Folk Art School

Service Description

This private workshop series builds on Z and L’s foundation in blacksmithing, developed through multiple prior sessions with us. Over the course of six sessions this fall, we will expand their technical skills, introduce new materials, and guide them through more complex, project-based work. The focus will be on refined forging techniques and the introduction of traditional joinery methods, both of which are essential for advancing into larger and more intricate blacksmithing projects. Alongside these metalworking skills, students will also be introduced to leatherworking and copper-smithing, broadening their craft toolkit and opening opportunities for mixed-material projects. Each session will balance structured skill-building with time for individual project development, including unique pieces such as the ostrich egg project. By the end of the semester, Z and L will have completed a series of intermediate-level works that demonstrate precision, creativity, and readiness for advanced blacksmithing challenges. Format: 6 sessions, 3-3.5 hours each Dates & Times: • Saturday, October 4 · 5–8 PM • Saturday, October 18 · 5–8 PM • Saturday, November 8 · 5–8 PM • Saturday, November 15 · 5–8 PM • Saturday, December 6 · 5–8 PM • Saturday, December 13 · 5–8 PM Learning Goals By the conclusion of this workshop series, students will: • Strengthen intermediate forging techniques with greater control and refinement. • Learn and apply traditional joinery methods to create strong, functional connections in metalwork. • Explore leatherworking fundamentals and integrate them into blacksmithing projects. • Build a technical foundation that prepares them for advanced blacksmithing and larger-scale projects in the coming year.
